Here is a group photo of our Junior Infants 2021/2022. They are a great addition to our school. Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class took part in our annual sports league. Everyone played with great heart and sportsmanship. Well done to all involved. We had a great sports day. The sun even came out for it. This year the whole school travelled to the Connacht Centre of Excellence for out tour. It was our first tour for a few years so we were very excited. We got our basketball court marked out. We also got a hopscotch and a target game. They are great fun. We had six weeks boxercise classes with Ciarán and Brian in North West Fitness Academy. It was great exercise and good fun too. We celebrated St.Patrick’s day in style. Everyone wore something green. We had a little parade around the school. The senior room have been busy looking after our school garden. We have been weeding around the potatoes. We have dug out some ground and planted wild flower seeds. Thank you to Tommy Walsh for his help too. We have been very busy in the junior room. We have grown peas, radishes, lettuce and dahlias. We water them every day and watch them grow. We had our very own frogspawn. The tadpoles hatched out of this. We watched them grow and looked after them. We released them when they turned into froglets We learned all about China. We tried to eat using chopsticks. We ate prawn crackers. It was a lot of fun. We celebrated St.Brigids Day in school by learning all about this special saint. Thank you to the children who brought in rushes so we could make crosses. We experimented with kitchen roll, markers and water to see how chromatography works. We also beat a baking tin to make sound waves. The sound waves made some uncooked rice move all by itself! Our shoeboxes for Team Hope were collected today. They will travel by boat and plane to reach children who may not get anything else for Christmas. Some of us decided to dress up in costumes for Halloween. Can you recognise us? The junior room worked on projects. The projects were about ourselves, our families and our favourite things. We sat on teacher’s chair and used the microphone to tell everyone all about our projects. We planted cress seeds. You need soil, water and light for good growth. We also planted vegetables in our school garden. Thank you to Tommy Walsh for preparing it for us. We hunted for mini beasts around the school. We examined them using magnifying glasses. We recorded what we found. The senior room made a bug hotel from pallets. Sports day was so much fun. We had races, egg & spoon race, wellie throwing and tug of war. Our senior room sports league was very competitive this year with Emma’s team winning the final. Congratulations! Junior Infants
